Co-sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and Tianjin Municipal People's Government, and jointly organized by Nankai University, the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS), the Children and Youth Science Center (CYSC) of CAST, and the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology, the IChO 2022 attracted a total of 84 national and regional teams to participate, hitting a new high record.

The IChO is an annual competition for the world’s most talented chemistry students at the secondary school level. The IChO was initiated in 1968 and was held once a year. As of now, 31 countries and regions around the world have hosted the event. It is the second time that China’s city was chosen to host the event since 1995 when China’s capital city Beijing was the host city.

During the Olympiad, special activities will be arranged for the participating contestants and their instructors to have an online tour to China’s prestigious meg scientific infrastructure – the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), acquire knowledge about the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) which advocates regional cooperation, trace the origin place of chemical industry in Tianjin, and get a glimpse of the downtown scenery to get to know the modern, beautiful and ever changing China.
