The International Science Council (ISC) recently convened its Third General Assembly (GA 2025) in Muscat, the capital of Oman. The event drew over 400 experts and scholars from 135 countries. During the assembly, Zhu Yongguan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Director of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences at CAS, was elected as Vice President for Membership of the ISC.

Zhu Yongguan expressed that his election as Vice President is not only a personal honor but also a testament to the international scientific community's endorsement of the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind. It reflects the high recognition of Chinese scientists' academic achievements and contributions.

As the world's largest non-governmental scientific organization, the ISC holds its GAs every four years, with a mid-term meeting in between. The 2026 mid-term meeting is scheduled to take place in Beijing. It will focus on the vision and common agenda for future scientific advancements, discussing topics including leveraging technologies to promote sustainable development. The event will also showcase China's sci-tech achievements and highlight Beijing's advances as a hub for sci-tech innovation.
