The Children and Youth Science Center (CYSC) of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), joining hands with more than 20 authoritative institutions both at home and abroad, including the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), CIT é de l'espace, the Chinese Society Astronautics (CSA) and the Bureau of Science Communication of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), delivered an immersive science night program as the new year present to the teenagers nationwide on the second night of 2022.

The event was live streamed at the 5G platform of the China Media Group (CMG) and aroused great social concerns, becoming top hot searching topics in 12 searching engine websites. The cumulative number of reading of related topics on microblog platforms exceeded 280 million, and calculation showed that the program covered more than 450 million people on the Internet.

The guest lineup of the program is brilliant, the participating teenagers met and received new year greetings from many top Chinese scientists such as Luan Enjie, Wang Jingxiu, Wu Xiangping and Li Hongbo.

As the first immersive science show in China, the program aimed to weave scattered knowledge points in domains of physics, chemistry, astronomy and communication into a network through a number of experiments and hands-on activities.

The anchor of the science show was Jia Yang, deputy general designer of the Tianwen-1 probe and designer of the Mars rover.

Jia demonstrated the detailed landing process of the first Mars rover “Zhurong” on the Martian surface by using a model of 1/3 size of the real rover. He also elaborated on the differences of the landing speeds in the Mars and the earth environments with a parachute experiment.

Special hands-on activities like wearing simulated space suits and holding blue smoke were also explained, revealing scientific knowledge that is not common in daily life.

Participants were also provided chances to find answers to mind-blowing questions like "How big is the meteorite before it reaches the earth?", "Where can we pick up meteorites on the earth?", "Why choose Mars as the new year journey destination?”, "Can we light fireworks on Mars?" and "What is the taste of the same dried earthworm on sci-fic movie Wandering Earth?"...

The participating teenagers raise hands, asking for a chance to answer interactive questions.

At the beginning of 2022, the CYSC presented this science night program to  nationwide teenagers to highlight and advocate the great exploration spirit of Chinese astronauts and scientists.

Further on, the CYSC would join hands with the CMG to launch a variety of popular science programs to encourage more Chinese teenagers to pick up the baton and carry on China’s sci-tech undertakings.
