CAST organizes student volunteers training for rural moms scientific literacy

Recently, sponsored by the Rural Special Technology Service Center of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and organized by Beijing Sci-tech Report Press, an online science popularization resource launching program was held. The program targeted at moms in rural areas and organized 2,000 plus college student volunteers from Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Zhejiang and Guangdong to provide relevant training services for moms in rural areas.

The activity was live streamed on platforms including Xinhuanet, Baidu, micro-blog, TikTok, Jinri Toutiao and Science Plus, receiving a total of 3.877 million views.

 

Wang Cheng, deputy director of the Rural Special Technology Service Center, addressed the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech entitled “S&T voluntary Services and Rural Revitalization”.

 

Zhu Hongqi, researcher of the division of theory study of science popularization of the China Research Institute for Science Popularization (CRISP), Liao Danfeng, deputy director of the division of science popularization of the China Association of Agricultural Science Societies, Zhang Jiaxin, initiator of the Xiyang Zaichen public welfare organization, and Yin Shuwen, staff member of the Rural Special Technology Service Center were invited to to share theoretical perspectives and practical experiences with college student volunteers.

 

A special tutorial curriculum was given to college student volunteers to make full use of the China Volunteers in Science and Technology platform (https://www.stvs.org.cn/) to apply for participation in the ongoing S&T voluntary service programs and publicize the program with newsletters and photo album. 

 

The activity released download channel for "300 Q&A for moms in rural areas" for college student and other volunteers to facilitate the dissemination of relevant knowledge.  

 

The activity aims to build up platforms to organize, mobilize, train and serve college students to make use of their expertise of different areas to provide voluntary S&T services to moms in rural areas.

 

The Rural Special Technology Service Center presented the science popularization program to help enhance scientific literacy of rural moms and make contributions to agricultural and rural modernization.
