The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation held a symposium and signed a strategic cooperation agreement on February 25, 2022.

Zhang Yuzhuo, secretary of the leading Party members group, vice president in charge of daily work and chief executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, and Hang Yuanxiang, secretary of the leading Party members group and executive vice president of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, attended the signing ceremony and delivered speeches respectively.

Yin Hao, member of the leading Party members group, executive secretary of the Secretariat and curator of the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) of CAST, Jing Dunquan, member of the leading Party members group and vice president of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, and Li Anjin, deputy secretary general of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation attended the signing ceremony.

Zhang Yuzhuo pointed out that as mass organizations under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the two sides have always taken linking the Party and the government with the targeted people they served as founding missions, and the fruitful achievements they have made won them reputation both at home and abroad.

The signing of the cooperation agreement is a practical measure to implement President Xi Jinping’s important instructions on tech innovation, science communication and mass organizations, added Zhang.

The two sides have a long history of cooperation and many intersected programs.

Zhang hoped the two sides to join hands to develop science education programs for children and youth and conducted more people-to-people exchanges to help enhance Chinese citizens’ scientific literacy and serve high-quality development.

Hang Yuanxiang said that in recent years the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation has been practicing its original aspiration of “Creating the future” by establishing awards for invention activities and developing online lectures for children and youth to respond to the call of the times.

Hang hoped that at the special moment of the 40th anniversary of the foundation and the first year of the 8th Council, the two sides would aggregate complementary advantages and achieve fruitful results under the framework of the cooperation agreement to make greater contributions to cultivating young talents for the realization of national rejuvenation.

According to the agreement, the two sides would carry out all-round and in-depth cooperation in the fields of science communication, talent cultivation and international sci-tech exchanges.

The both sides would share science venues, widen scientific and cultural exchange channels, establish science communication awards and reform science education mechanism to contribute to realizing sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening at higher levels.

After the meeting, the two sides investigated together the China Soong Ching Ling Science & Culture Center for Young People and watched short films on science communication for youngsters.
