CAST will publish serial books on peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality

The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) had a review meeting on the publication of the serial books on peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality on April 6, 2022.

Zhang Yuzhuo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), secretary of the leading Party members group, vice president in charge of daily work and chief executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, director of the Editorial Committee of the serial books, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech.

 

Lyu Zhaoping, member of the leading Party members group and executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, and other members of the Editorial Committee, prestigious academicians, experts and heads of the relevant member societies including Du Xiangwan, Shi Yubo, Jiang Yi, Xie Jianxin, Wang Jinnan, Zhang Shougong, Liu Zhengdong, Su Yinao, Peng Suping Liu Feng, Zheng Shengan attended the meeting.

 

Also present at the meeting were key members of the compilation team of the serial books.

 

While noting that achieving the goal of “peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality” is a major concern of all social sectors and the entire world, Zhang Yuzhuo said that CAST’s efforts on launching the compilation of the serial books and helping cultivate relevant professionals are concrete measures to put Xi Jinping's thinking on promoting ecological progress into practice and implement the spirit of the central conference on talent-related work, which  will conduce to disseminating relevant knowledge to the public and cultivating relevant talents for the country.

 

Zhang required that the serial books should tell the public the importance and urgency of the efforts for peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality, and the development of the compilation should link the national plans on energy, environmental protection and climate.

 

Zhang stressed to rely on CAST’s expert resources and carry forward academic democracy to determine the catalogues and clarify the compilation specifications.

 

He expected that CAST will present to readers interesting serial books with both relevant knowledge and the function for cultivating interdisciplinary talents.

 

He hoped that coordinated efforts be made and try to publish the first batch of the books ahead of the 6th National Science and Technology Workers Day which will fall on the coming May 30.

 

The complete serials, a guide for the industrial sector to take actions for realizing the goal of peaking carbon emissions and neutrality, will be published by the end of 2023.

 

In 2021, CAST formulated work arrangement on its assistance in the cultivation of peaking carbon emissions and neutrality professionals, and established the Editorial Committee of the serial books together with the alliance of societies for clean energy.  

 

The Editorial Committee invited many prestigious academicians and experts to lead the preparation work of the first three books of the series, namely the introduction to new power system, the introduction to clean energy and smart energy and the introduction to clean and low-carbon transformation of coal.

 

The Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), the China Energy Research Society (CERS) and the China Coal Society took the lead in the preparation work of the above mentioned three books respectively.

 

At the meeting, relevant experts of the alliance of societies for clean energy, the CSEE, the CERS and the China Coal Society reported the progress of the preparation work respectively.

 

The Editorial Committee and experts of the compilation team put forward suggestions on the revision and further work of the serial books from perspectives of academic authority, holistic strategy, prospective foresight and systematic description.
