The 22nd Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO 2022) concluded on May 31, 2022.

The Chinese team won 7 gold and 1 silver medals and led the list of team performance. Li Yitang from Hangzhou No.2 High School of Zhejiang Province won the championship of the theory test and the title of best female contestant.

The 8 contestants of the Chinese team were Chen Haonan of Chengdu No. 7 High School in Sichuan Province, Hu Chenyuan of Zhenhai High School of Ningbo, Ji Zhou of The High School Attached to Hunan Normal University, Jiang Hongjie and Li Yitang of Hangzhou No.2 High School of Zhejiang Province, Su Jiaxi of No.1 Middle School Affiliated to Central China Normal University, Wang Ziren of Zhejiang Wenzhou High School, and Xiong Xiaoyu of No.2 High School of East China Normal University.

Song Feng, Liu Lisa, Kong Yongfa, Zhang Chunling, Wang Jin and other teachers of the School of Physics of Nankai University served as team leaders and observers.

This year’s event was organized by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) with a nodal centre at the Graphic Era Hill University in Dehradun with the support of the Department of Atomic Energy, the Department of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education of the  Government of India through Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education(HBCSE).

The event attracted a total of 28 teams from Asian and Oceanian countries and regions to participate and a total of 11 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 34 bronze medals were awarded.

APhO is the most influential physics competition for pre-university students from Asian and Oceanian countries.

The event is held once a year, with the aim to assist in the preparation of Asian students towards the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) and build a network among the leaders for further collaborative projects in physics education.

China organized national team to take part since the competition was initiated in 2000.

The Children and Youth Science Center (CYSC) of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the Chinese Physical Society (CPS) jointly selected outstanding middle school students who have keen interest in physics to compete with their Asian peers to show intelligence and make friends.
