WFEO-CHINA holds plenary meeting in Beijing

The Chinese committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO-CHINA) held a plenary meeting at the China Hall of Science and Technology (CHST) on September 30, 2022.

More than 40 representatives including Gong Ke, past president of WFEO, member of the executive council of WFEO and president of WFEO-CHINA, and Peng Jing, member of the executive council of WFEO and chair of the Standing Technical Committee on Engineering for Innovative Technologies (WFEO-CEIT), attended the meeting in a hybrid form of online and on spot.

 

Luo Hui, member of the leading Party members Group of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and director of the Department of International Affairs of CAST attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

 

The meeting was presided over by Gong Ke.

 

At this meeting, Peng Jing made a report summarizing current work and introducing future plans of WFEO-CEIT.

 

Chen Rui, secretary general of WFEO-CHINA made a report summarizing current work and introducing future plans of WFEO-CHNIA.

 

The participants conducted exchanges and had discussions on how to better play their roles, stimulate organizational effectiveness, and improve work efficiency of WFEO, WFEO-CEIT and WFEO-CHINA.

 

Gong Ke briefed the participants about WFEO’s future plans, and made a report on how to realize WFEO's announced objectives and promote its organizational governance as well.

 

Gong Ke noted that WFEO-CHINA as one of the national members of WFEO,  plays an important role for CAST to promote Chinese engineers and technicians’ participation in international sci-tech governance, adding that WFEO-CHINA will rely on WFEO to rally the broad majorities of engineering professionals to realize global sustainable development goals (SDGs) and build a community with a shared future for mankind.

 

In her summary, Luo Hui fully recognized the efforts WFEO-CHINA had made under the leadership of Gong Ke.

 

Luo pledged that CAST will provide support for Chinese sci-tech professionals to take their responsibilities in international organizations, and will make continuous efforts to initiate international sci-tech organizations based in China and apply for admission as provisionary or full members in mutual recognition agreements of engineering capacity, thus providing better services for Chinese sci-tech professionals to deepen scientific and cultural exchanges and participate in global sci-tech governance.

 

Founded in 1968, and under the auspices of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), WFEO is the largest non-governmental engineering organization in the world.

 

It is an A-level advisory body of UNESCO and an advisory body of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

 

Up to now, WFEO has 93 national members, 12 international organization members and 13 associate members. The Secretariat of WFEO-CHINA is affiliated to the National Communication Center for Science and Technology of CAST, and is mainly responsible for organizing, coordinating and promoting relevant domestic institutions and experts to participate in WFEO’s activities.
