The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) sent a delegation to attend the 2023 Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) which was held in Washington D.C. on March 2-5, 2023.

The delegation consisted of representatives of the National Academy of Innovation Strategy (NAIS), the China Research Institute for Science Popularization (CRISP), the China Centre for International Science and Technology Exchange (CISTE), the Science and Technology Review Publishing House etc.

The delegation assisted the Beijing International Exchange Association (BIEA) in holding the sub-forum of Entrepreneurship capacity building of female sci-tech talent as a side event.

During their stay in the United States, the CAST delegation had discussion with members of the AAAS leadership with Sudip Parikh as chief executive officer.

The two sides reviewed previous collaborations and achievements between the two organizations, and reached a consensus on implementation of the renewed bilateral memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in March 2022. 

The both sides exchanged ideas for cooperation on scientific issues of mutual interest including STM journals publishing, public engagement in science communication, women’s participation in science, and exchanges and cooperation among young scientists.

During the Annual Meeting, the Science and Technology Review Publishing House signed a MoU on strategic cooperation of academic journals with the AAAS side.

Founded in 1848, AAAS is one of the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals. CAST and AAAS formally established ties in 1978.
