According to a notice announcing the 2022 evaluation results of all the agencies of China’s central level organs participating in the national initiative of rural revitalization, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) ranked first-class to provide follow-up assistance for its paired Linxian County and Lanxian County in north China’s Shanxi Province which were just lifted out of poverty.

In 2022, in accordance with the important instructions of President Xi Jinping and the unified deployment of the Central Rural Work Leading Team, CAST took active part in the national initiative of rural revitalization which put continuous emphasis on consolidating and expanding the achievements of poverty alleviation.

The Party leadership of CAST listed the targeted assistance work on its important agenda. Leading officers of CAST went to the two counties to make surveys and provide assistance.

CAST issued Key points for targeted assistance work of CAST in 2022, and organized 8 special meetings to establish a quarterly consultation mechanism to provide better targeted assistance services to Linxian and Lanxian.

By promoting the revitalization of industries at county-level and increasing farmers' income as the goal, CAST gave full play to its organizational advantages to mobilize resources of science, technology and talent to maximize the effectiveness of its targeted assistance work.

More attention has been paid to push for transformation of science and technology into production, develop varieties of training programs for local officials and farmers, create favorable conditions for national societies and local branches of CAST to join the efforts, and establish multi-sectoral collaboration and cooperation mechanism for targeted assistance work.

Throughout 2022, more than 32 million yuan of assistance funds (including direct investment) were invested to the targeted counties. Training of 1,395 person-times were provided for grassroots cadres, rural revitalization leaders and sci-tech professionals of the areas. More than 6 million yuan worth of agricultural products from poverty-stricken areas were purchased and distributed with help of CAST.

CAST joined hands with The National Rural Revitalization Administration to establish an industry advisory team to provide sci-tech consultation, talent cultivation and achievements transformation services for growers of edible fungi and seabuckthorn to promote the industrial development and increase the income of the farmers in the two counties following the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC. CAST is making continuous efforts to leverage its organizational and talent advantages, improve the industrial chain and enhance the influence of industrial brands to get more engaged in the national initiative of rural revitalization.
