The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) won the bid to host the 2025 World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) plenary meeting, at the 2023 WFEO plenary meeting in Prague, the Czech Republic, Oct 14, 2023.

The meeting will be held in Shanghai. It will be the second time for Shanghai to host an international engineering event since the 1st World Conference of Engineers (WEC) in 2004. Representatives of engineering organizations from more than 100 countries and regions will gather to find ways to overcome challenges while fostering sustainable development through engineering technologies.

During the meeting, Ling Wen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE）and president of the Shandong Association for Science and Technology, was elected member of the executive committee of the WFEO Committee on Engineering and Environment (CEE) , and will serve as the chair for a term of four years. He Jing, deputy chief architect of the China Institute of Building Standard Design and Research Co., Ltd., was elected representative of China to the Executive Committee for a term of four years.

Additionally, Chen Xuedong, vice-president of CAST, Gong Ke, former WFEO president, and the CAST delegates conducted comprehensive exchanges with representatives of the WEFO member organizations, and showcased China's latest sci-tech achievements.

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations, founded in 1968 under the auspices of UNESCO, is the world's largest non-governmental international organization for the engineering profession, comprising of nearly 100 national members as well as 12 international members. CAST officially joined the WFEO in 1981.
